GRACE: GIS/T Resources & Applications for Career Education
Funder: NSF ITEST Program, 2014

GRACE was a scale-up expansion project based on the Mayor’s Youth Technology Corp ITEST project that took place in Detroit Public Schools 2008-11. Professional development for teachers supported students throughout the State of Michigan to learn and engage with geospatial and information technologies with over 50 students having participated in paid GIS internships throughout Michigan, contributing real-world GIS technical expertise to municipal infrastructure departments (e.g. Detroit Water & Sewage, Detroit Urban Development, National Park Service) highlighting the workforce transition aspect of this grant and demonstrating its potential for scale. In collaboration with Eastern Michigan University, Michigan Virtual University, Michigan Math and Science Center Network, and Michigan Communities Association of Mapping Professionals.
